End of year reflection

This year has been a really cool year and it has gone really fast especially term 4. This year I got house deputy which I was really surprised about. There was heaps of cool opportunities this year for kawaka year 7 and 8 like house captain, councillor for year 8, social dance and much more.

year 7 Camp.
This Year for camp the year sevens went to auckland. We did multiple activities like going to the auckland museum, Going rollerblading, going to the maritime museum and getting a ports of auckland tour, Going up the sky tower and going to rangitoto island. My favourite part of camp was the sky tower because I have wanted to go up the sky tower since I knew what it was.

  • Camp.
  • Athletics.
  • Cross country.
  • Pirongia forest park lodge.
  • Sports camp.
  • Social dance.

This year I think I have improved a lot In my work. My favourite activities in maths would have to be the problem challenges and my favourite things in writing were the animal reports.

Over all I think this year has been a really good year and although I am excited to have a big break I am also excited for the cool opportunities that I will get next year like hilary outdoors and counselor.

Home made bags

Last week Matua x came into our class to talk about plastic. He said that plastic bags are really bad because they release toxins into the air which pollutes water and soil. He also said that when you drop a plastic bag it either ends up in the ocean, stuck in a tree or stuck on an animal. Because of this he taught us how to make reusable bags out of old shirts. Fist you get your shirt and cut out the arm holes. Next if you need to you cut out the collar. Then you cut strips at the bottom of the shirt. The last step is tying the strips together.

Production 2017

In production this year I did lighting and sound. My job was the side lights with Jack. I think it was really fun. It was quite hard at first but after a couple of practices it was OK. I think the hardest part was trying to find cool colours but it was fun when you do find cool colours.

Science fair 2017

In science this year my topic was how much plastic waste can my family reduce in two weeks. We reduced  1.237 kg's of plastic waste. In the first two weeks we had 2.293 kg's of plastic waste or 207 bits and in the second week we had 1.056 kg's or 48 bits. There are four people in our home which means we reduced 0.30925 kg's of plastic each. If everybody in New Zealand reduced that much plastic New Zealand would have 1,422,550 kg's less plastic every fortnight. If everybody in New Zealand  reduced 0.30925 kg's of plastic every fortnight then in a year New Zealand would of reduce the same weight as 84 Boeing 747 jumbo jets of plastic. I have found this topic interesting.

Science fair

In science my topic is how much plastic does my family use in two weeks. What I am doing is gathering up all the plastic my family is finished using for two weeks. Weighing it. Then I am thinking of what I can do to reduce the amount of plastic we use and use those ideas for another 2 weeks. I am hoping that in the end we have reduced the amount of plastic we use a lot and that we can continue to use that much.

Term one reflection

This term in maths I have learnt a lot. I have learnt how to round decimals to one decimal point, about angels and how to measure them with a protractor and I have got better at the things I already new.
In writing we have been focusing on a few different things like simple compound and complex sentences and explanation writing. I found putting simple and compound sentences in my story easy but complex a bit harder. At the moment we are doing explanation writing. I have finished my explanation about lungs and I just need to write a conclusion about rocks. I have found it interesting.

In reading we have been doing heaps of activities like library of language and find it. Library of language is when you find a sentence full of language features and you write it down on a piece of paper that looks like a book. You also write the author and your name. Find it is a activity when you get a school journal and you have to find a adjective, verb, prefix, suffix, two syllable word and a three syllable word.
In tech arts this term I was doing cooking and music. In cooking we learnt different things to do while cooking or baking like needing. We also learnt about safety around the kitchen and food hygiene. In music we were doing the song lush life and radioactive. For lush life I was doing keyboard. It was really fun but easy. For radioactive I was doing guitar. I found it easy but fun as well. I think we did good as a band most of the time.
This term for inquiry we were doing integrity games. Integrity games was when we had to teach Tawa team how to play a game you made up with your group. I was in a group with Jay, Liam, Daniel and I. Our game at the practice day was a game where someone on one side threw the ball to one of the people on the other side. Then that person hit the ball to the other side where someone caught it. That was to hard so on the  day we changed it to patter tennis but you had to walk like a crab. That was also to hard so we changed it to line tag but if you got tug you had to run to the bin and back. The way the person in wins is if they make everybody run before someone gets back.
I think it has been a good term.

Integrity games

On Friday we had integrity games. At the start our game was too hard so we changed it. At the end our game was line tag but if you got tug you had to run to a bin and back. The way the person in wins is if the person tags everyone before someone gets back. We were teaching Tawa teach students. I was in a group with Jay, Daniel and Liam. A positive was that in the end our game went good most of the time. A thing that did not go well is that some people got upset with the running. Something we found interesting is that some people did not like it. The picture below is our game when it did not go well at the start.

On Tuesday Callum from ASB came to our class to talk about money. He talked to us about if you are someone that gets a lot of  money from their job you get more tax than normal people. He talked to us about jobs that get a lot of money, he talked to us about jobs that get a average amount of money and jobs that don't get much money. At the end we played a game. In the game we were going to Fiji. To win the game you had to come back with $0 dollars or more and he had to have a good holiday. In the game I learnt about some things you need to learn before you go on a aeroplane.
